BJC Behavioral Health offers an array of ways to assist you in accessing the service that fit your needs. Some of these are listed below.

Behavioral Health Integration - The Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) virtual service which includes Behavioral Health Navigators and Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs) serves as the front door for telepsychiatry consultations in 13 hospitals across BJC. Telepsychiatry was added to the BHI service in October 2022.

QMHPs are licensed staff that have a mental health background in crisis assessments. They can determine the level of care for a patient in crisis. They are registered nurses with at least 3-4 years of psychiatric experience, social workers, and counselors. They provide comprehensive virtual assessments, communicate with hospital treatment teams, patients’ guardians and/or support system, when appropriate. They make recommendations for level of care, provides resources and safety plans with patients.

Telepsychiatry provides consultation, recommends level of care, medication adjustments and/or starting patients on medications. Telepsychiatry communicates with the QMHP and ordering provider their recommended level of care.

Behavioral Health Navigators triage orders for QMHP, help find inpatient psychiatric placement, and provide connection or re-connection to their community providers.
