BJC Behavioral Health offers a variety of ways to assist you in accessing the service that fits your needs. Some of these are listed below.

Behavioral Health Integration: The Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) virtual service, which includes Behavioral Health Navigators and Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs), acts as the front door for telepsychiatry consultations in 13 hospitals across BJC.

QMHPs are licensed staff, including registered nurses with at least 3-4 years of psychiatric experience, social workers and counselors who have a mental health background in crisis assessments. QMHPs can:

  • Determine the level of care for a patient in crisis
  • Provide comprehensive virtual assessments
  • Communicate with hospital treatment teams, patients' guardians and support systems, when appropriate
  • Make recommendations for the level of care
  • Provide resources and safety plans to patients

Telepsychiatry provides consultation and then recommends the level of care, medication adjustments and may start the patients on medications. Telepsychiatry communicates the recommended level of care with the QMHP and ordering provider.

Behavioral Health Navigators triage orders for QMHP, help find inpatient psychiatric placement and provide connection or re-connection to community providers.
